Portraits #13 & #14: The Doorway (1 & 2)

Our time spent together always begins and ends in this doorway.  This door is a portal into your world and your language.  In its frame myriad emotions are captured.  I am greeted with smiles, excited acrobatics, hugs, kisses and inquiries and I leave in sea of hugs, goodbyes, waves and "I'll miss you"'s.  For me this doorway is a part of you. 

Portrait # 12: Little Bird

I had forgotten how small newborns are only 6 months after mine was born!  It is a treat to take the first photos of a new life and a fun challenge to try to capture this brief moment of perfect tininess.

Portrait # 11: Don't Go

Sedra is a very cute little terror.  She adores Rowan and wants to carry him around and hold him all the time.  I am still working on getting a good portrait of her sister who is more self aware and camera shy.

Portrait # 10: Waiting

I like to think of belly shots as the first portraits of the little one to come while mother and baby still coexist to create a beautiful and unique melding of two bodies.  

Portrait #9: On the Dock

We had just finished a picnic in the park and wandered over to a fishing dock when I caught this one.  In Florida it rarely ever feels like winter so I was surprised by how much this looks like winter light.

I bought some alphabet blocks that I thought might do double duty as a toy for Rowan and a photo prop.  He just loves them.  They usually go straight into his mouth.

This little guy's mother plays piano and after seeing how much he enjoyed her piano, his parents got him his very own.  They brought it with them for the shoot and I was so happy they had.  His just loves to play!  In fact he was so intent on playing that it was a struggle to get him to pay attention to us.  I think we have a little musician in the works here.

Portrait #3: Smile Study

I love how babies study faces.  It feels so nice to be on the receiving end of those curious stares.  This little guy is mesmerized by Daddy's smile.

Portrait #2: My Little Light

 

This photograph is from a shoot of a family I did recently.  As a new mother it struck a chord with me as it seems to embody the shift in perspective that comes with motherhood.  We mothers are no longer a single entity once we have children.  With this expanded worldview comes an overwhelming sense of love and pride in our little ones.
